Progression of Skills and Knowledge – Personal Development Learning

Curriculum Intent – Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE)

At Gomer Infant School we follow the Jigsaw Scheme of Work to deliver Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE). Jigsaw is a progressive and effective scheme of work which aims to prepare children for life, helping them really know and value who they are and also understand how they can relate to other people in our ever-changing world.

The content which is covered in Year R, 1 and 2 includes:

Being Me in My World – Includes understanding my place in the class, school and global community as well as devising Learning Charters.

Celebrating Difference – Includes anti-bullying (cyber and homophobic bullying included) and diversity work.

Dreams and Goals – Includes goal-setting, aspirations for yourself and the world and working together.

Healthy Me – Includes drugs and alcohol education, self-esteem and confidence as well as healthy lifestyle choices.

Relationships – includes understanding friendship, family and other relationships, conflict resolution and communication skills.

Changing Me – This puzzle includes sex and relationships education in the context of coping positively with change (includes age-appropriate sex education).

The teaching of Sex and Relationships Education (SRE) is now compulsory for all primary school aged pupils. This is taught sensitively and has been introduced to support all children to develop their knowledge of healthy, respectful relationships, focusing on family and friendships, in all contexts, including online. This sits alongside the essential understanding of how to lead a healthy lifestyle physically and mentally. Please access our PSHE Policy to find out more about the delivery of this subject at our school.

PSHE Highlights

November 2023

This term we came together as a school to talk about bullying and how it makes us feel.  We began the week wearing odd socks – linking with our current theme of celebrating differences; wearing odd socks allowed us to talk about being ourselves and positive friendships!
