Year 1 children had a school trip to Itchen Valley this Monday, the coach departed just after 9.00am and the children arrived at Itchen Valley in the morning for the start of a very fun packed day of forest activities. Everyone got to make dens, go bug hunting, whittle a stick to cook their marshmallows
This week Year 1's had their first tennis lesson from JG Tennis. As the weather was dry all the children got the opportunity to practice tennis skills outside on the school playground. The tennis lessons will take place every Friday for the next 5 weeks.
Year 1 were visited by the Fire Service today and spent the day learning about fire safety through an assembly, games and a look around a fire engine. Last week's learning in the forest for Year 1 was team building. The children worked together to build the strongest house, a stick house for the big bad wolf to blow down from the story of The Three Little Pigs, map read with a partner and made bird feeders.
In Geography we have been looking at atlases to identify the 4 countries of the UK. We have also started looking at Google earth to locate where we live.
This week we chose which activities we wanted to do. This included making a park for our dinosaur, digging for fossils, following a trail of dinosaur footprints, litter collecting and of course enjoying hot chocolate! We all joined in to make a life size Stegasoraus using rope and all fitted inside with room still left!
In cool time we are trying really hard to practise writing instructions for lots of different things. We know we need a title, a what you need, a what you do and a don't forget section.
