Music
At Gomer Infant School we are passionate about music and have developed an inspiring Curriculum that enables children to enjoy listening to a wide range of music and develops their skills and confidence to compose and perform music. Please click here to see our Curriculum Intent for Music.
As a school we invest in high quality music provision from Hampshire Music Service (HMS) to enhance our Music Curriulum.
Singing
All the children have a weekly singing session from a music specialist teacher. Our song focus/theme changes each half term, so far this year we have explored the following:
Autumn 1 – New beginnings, and Harvest
Autumn 2 – Remembrance, Advent and Christmas
Spring 1 – New Year, new beginnings, Chinese New Year
Spring 2 – Diversity, Spring, Easter
Musical Instruments
Year 2 children have a weekly instrument lesson from a music specialist teacher. The children learn the Ukulele, Bamboo Tamboo, and the Recorder.
Gomer Glee
Hampshire Music Service also run a weekly singing club after school – Gomer Glee!
Rocksteady Music Tuition
We are very excited to have recently welcomed Rocksteady Music School to Gomer Infant School to offer weekly music tuition. Children can choose from the electric guitar, keyboard, drums or vocals and really enjoying these sessions. We can’t wait to see the children’s first concert later in the Summer term.
Musician of the Month
Each half term we focus on a significant musician. We learn about this musician and listen to a range of their songs. The musician we will be learning about for June is Bob Marley.
