At Gomer Infant School we are passionate about music and have developed an inspiring Curriculum that enables children to enjoy listening to a wide range of music and develops their skills and confidence to compose and perform music. Please click here to see our Curriculum Intent for Music.

We follow the Charanga music scheme at Gomer Infant School, this scheme enables us to teach musical skills and knowledge in a fun and engaging way.

As a school we also invest in high quality music provision from Hampshire Music Service (HMS) to enhance our Music Curriculum.

Music Monday
Music can have a real positive impact on our mood and wellbeing, with this in mind, we play music on a Monday morning as the children come into school to help them begin the day and week with some extra smiles!
Songs We Sing

All the children have a weekly singing session from a music specialist teacher. Our song focus/theme changes each half term, so far this year we have explored the following:

Autumn 1 – New beginnings, and Harvest

Autumn 2 – Remembrance, Advent and Christmas songs

Musical Instruments

Year 2 children have a weekly instrument lesson from a music specialist teacher. The children learn the Ukulele, Bamboo Tamboo, and the Recorder.

We have really enjoyed learning the Bamboo Tamboo in Spring Term and were proud to show our new skills to parents at a concert!

Gomer Glee

Hampshire Music Service also run a weekly singing club after school – Gomer Glee!

Rocksteady Music Tuition

We are very excited to have Rocksteady Music School coming into Gomer Infant School to offer weekly music tuition. Children can choose from the electric guitar, keyboard, drums or vocals and really enjoying these sessions. At the end of each term the children have the opportunity to play in a concert to show off their developing music skills!

Musician of the Month

Each month we focus on a significant musician or group of musicians. We learn about this musician and listen to a range of their songs.

So far this academic year we have learned about and listened to the music of Dolly Parton, Louis Armstrong, and The Beatles.

During March we have been listening to music by Rizzle Kicks.
